WEARINESS

At the crossroads of life,

Drive me, drive me, my friend,
away from the light, away from the dark,
away from the love, away from the hate’s spark.

Drive me, drive me, my friend,
away from my kin, away from the lone,
away from the world, away from my own.

Drive me, drive me, my friend,
away from the sun, away from the frost,
away from the dew and the rain we have lost.

Carry me far from it all.
Carry me on, so my eyes do not tire,
nor yield to the grace of a hollow provider.

For in the breath in is all, in the breath out is naught.
And nothing is all, and all is but naught.

So carry me, carry me, friend, I pray,
from all of this, far, far away.
